They're superb. I like the fact that the suggestion of incest is so very subtle. Hemmings and Tate give strange detached performances, which of course is exactly what was required.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5652234729744168364.post-62869577449759303882021-07-20T12:50:35.990+10:002021-07-20T12:50:35.990+10:00Honestly, I think Eye of the Devil is the better f...Honestly, I think Eye of the Devil is the better film, but most of that is because of the Hemmings-Tate scenes (ambiguosly incestuous and seemingly teetering between good and evil). They're absolutely perfect, and both the decision of Niven's character to go along with the pagan traditions, and his son's adoption of those traditions (knowing full well what the implications are for him if the crops fail in the future) add to the horror. Sgt. Howie was forced to be a part of his sacrifice, and Phillippe chooses to be a willing participant in his sacrifice. Therein to me lies the difference and the reason I think Eye of the Devil is slightly superior. Your blood mileage may vary, of course. :) Nevertheless, great review!Randall Landershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10459066894752870249noreply@blogger.com
